The tale of water and ice told at “Yuki no Otani”

Limited time only! Join a guided tour of the giant snow walls of Yuki no Otani by private bus!

  • Walking through the walls of snow of Yuki no Otani.

This guided tour will take you to the giant snow walls of Yuki no Otani by private bus, on select dates between April 29th and May 29th.
The nearly 20-meter-tall walls of snow found along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route open up for visitors in April, just as the Tateyama Mountain Range begins to awaken from the long winter.
Let’s look at Yuki no Otani from a different point of view! How long will the walls of snow last? Where does all of the snow end up? The snow that has been piling up all winter has a wealth of information for us.
Starting at sea level in the center of Toyama City, you will slowly make your way up toward the 3,000-meter peaks of Tateyama, learning about Toyama’s majestic cycle of snow, ice and water along the way.
Why not make the journey of a lifetime together with your family or friends?

◇During this season, the average temperature is between 5 to 10℃; it is best to dress for mid-winter conditions, including possible snowfall. Glare is strong on sunny days, so sun glasses and sunscreen are also recommended.
◇Midagahara and Murodo are completely covered with snow, so it is recommended to wear waterproof trekking shoes or long boots when going for walks in the area.
