Firefly Squid Sea Tourism: Come experience the firefly squids' magical light
A fantasy of light you can only see in Toyama Bay
-
Come see firefly squid fishing up close on the sea.
This sea tourism attraction lets you see the firefly squid fishing activities unfolding at sea before dawn. The fishing season for firefly squid only lasts for a few months during the year. The only time you can see the firefly squid spawning at sea in spring is between April and May, just one short month. The firefly squid caught in the fixed nets will emit blue light, turning the still dark Sea of Japan into a magical world. Watching the spectacular light performance put on by the shimmering firefly squid is a moving experience that is only possible in Toyama Bay. The rising sun above the Tateyama Mountain range is also sure to be a memory you will not forget!
