The triangular lookout point is a landmark!
This museum introduces visitors to two of Toyama's wonders: the buried forest and the mirage. Also known as "Nekko-Land" (nekko means 'root' in Japanese), it is the actual site where some 2,000 years ago, a 500 year old tree were buried and preserved. An important find demonstrating the change in weather and environment that the region has undergone since the Jomon period, the buried forest has been designated as a Special Natural Monument of Japan. Feel the history; the display room is like a cap which has been placed on the original excavation site. The adjacent rest area "Mirage", and the museum's surroundings have been designated by the city as a "harbor oasis" and place of interest. This is the main area where mirages are visible in the spring, and there is a lookout point set up specifically for spotting mirages.
