Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art & Design

“A museum connecting art and design”

  • We fully opened on August 26th, 2017!

The Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art & Design is located in the Fugan Canal Kansui Park, north of Toyama Station. Featuring not only pieces from 20th century masters such as Picasso and Chagall, the museum also houses a variety of surrealist and abstract works from the 20th century, as well as designer posters and chairs from artists representing Toyama and Japan. The Onomatopoeia Garden rooftop garden is also a must-see. The designer Taku Satoh created original playground equipment, including the returning Fuwafuwa Dome, where children and families alike can have fun. The rooftop view of the Tateyama mountain range is absolutely spectacular. There are many other ways to experience and immerse yourself in art and design, like through the tactile panels introducing the poster and chair collections in the design exhibit on the 3rd floor, participative workshops in the atelier, and open productions from artists. Come and discover the many ways you can enjoy the Museum of Art & Design!
